Crowds turned out to take a deckchair in Market Square last summer to watch the action from the All England Club.

But the Lichfield Business Improvement District (BID) said any hope of watching the action this July has been smashed.

In a statement, the Lichfield BID said: “The big TV screen in the city showing the Wimbledon tennis finals will not happen this year in July as we have been unable to obtain permission from Lichfield City Council for the same location and for the same durations as last year.

“We have not found a suitable alternative that meets the needs of residents, visitors and businesses alike.”

Despite the disappointment, there is hope that this summer could just be a ‘let’.

“We know that this will be disappointing, but we are looking to see if we can bring this back in 2019 and 2020 as we know that you everyone enjoyed it so much last year and made it such a success.
