All I can say to Sutton Coldfield Musical Theatre Company is “bless your beautiful hides” for giving us an evening we’ll remember for a long time.
The film Seven Brides for Seven Brothers has long been a favourite of mine and the stage show had a few extras musical numbers which just added to the enjoyment of the evening.
The show has to have really good dancers and SCMTC has these in abundance. Coached by choreographer Maggie Jackson and Dance Captain Jane Harper, the stage virtually exploded with the enthusiasm of the performers in the dance routines.
Leading a very large cast were Paul Lumdsen as Adam and Georgina Jones as Milly. Two strong performances well-deserving of the applause at the end.
For me the seven brothers stole the show – near-slapstick comedy, some great singing and really outstanding dancing. A real treat to watch. Brilliant performances from Ed Hill, Jeff Cowls, James Pugh, Keith Dovey, Dan Anketell and, last but not least, Patrick Jervis who made an endearing Gideon.
The brides also provided us with some memorable songs and dance routines – some lovely characterisations from Zoe Allen, Sarah Clarke, Heidi Cresswell, Vicky Belcher, Jemma Tiso and Sally-Jane Adams.
The band provided a first-rate backing under the musical direction of Sheila Pearson and she, together with director Lynn Hill and her assistant Kate Pinell, are to be congratulated on a wonderful production.
Everyone leaving the theatre had a smile on their faces – a sure sign of a first-rate show and an evening well spent.
The next production for SCMTC is Little Shop of Horrors at Sutton Coldfield Town Hall in October.
