Detectives have arrested two men following an attempted robbery near Burntwood.
Two women were injured when a man tried to steal a Ford Focus from a driveway in Burntwood Road, Hammerwich, at around 1.15pm on Monday (November 21).
The thief left the car on the drive and ran to a waiting red or maroon saloon car, driven by another person, which drove off along Burntwood Road towards the village Post Office.
Fortunately the women, aged 72 and 64, were not seriously injured and were treated at hospital before being released later on Monday.
Two men, aged 45 and 40 from Birmingham, were arrested the following day on suspicion of attempted robbery. They were released on police bail pending further inquiries last night.
Inspector Jed White, Lichfield Local Policing Team Commander, said: “Detectives are carrying out a full, detailed investigation into this serious crime.
“They’ve already spoken to numerous witnesses but need to talk with anyone else who saw the car or the offender either before or after the crime.
“Anybody with information should ring Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 307 of 21 November, or Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
Insp White added: “Motorists should always be vigilant concerning opportunist thieves.
“As the cold weather approaches, people are also reminded not to leave their vehicles unattended with their engines running while defrosting them.”
