A new scheme will see Lichfield businesses offer support for people facing homophobia or other hate crimes.
The initiative has been organised by Lichfield Business Improvement District (BID) and will see participating companies in the city showing stickers in their windows with ‘Ask for Clive’ written on them.
These markers will show people where they can find a safe haven to call police or a taxi away from the area.
The scheme was started by Clive Duffy, an events organiser for Hertfordshire Pride, and has now spread across the country.
Lichfield BID officers have been distributing Ask for Clive packs to participating locations in the city.
A spokesperson said: “We’re really proud of our business community for showing such interest in the safe spaces scheme.
“We knew from the get-go that we would be engulfed with interest.
“Despite Lichfield being seen as an old, historic city, we are really forward thinking and keeping in line with bigger cities, hence why we have such a successful and growing economy.”
