Burntwood RUFC 2nds overcame a makeshift referee and Walsall 3rds to win at The Broadway 30-17.
With plenty of players available, Burntwood’s line up was predominantly a development XV and they gradually wore down their opponents.
Jon Pucci opened the scoring with a try from half way having been sent clear by skipper Martyn Smith.
Nick Peplow, starting the game at full back, scored the second. Burntwood spread the ball either side in the home 22 before he came into the line and touched down under the posts. Mitch Carless converted.
Dave Humphries notched the next following good driving play by forwards Craig Goodall, Ritchie England and Simon Edwards.
Walsall hit back before the break with two tries by their powerful No. 8 but Burntwood regained the initiative after the turnaround which allowed Carless to kick a penalty.
Peplow’s second try followed a sweeping attack from 22 to 22 although the touch down came in an unorthodox manner. A stray pass was kicked through by prop forward Smith and Peplow scored.
The final try went to Jack Neal – just reward for a cracking game. A forwards trundle from half way saw the youngster break free to beat a tiring home side.
