Small tractors, sit-on mowers and mini-diggers are among the items taken in a number of raids by criminals.
Five incidents have been recorded – including in Barton-under-Needwood and Burntwood – since April 8.
Now Staffordshire Police are warning owners of small plant equipment, such as outdoor sports clubs, garden centres, marinas and farms, to be on their guard against the thieves who have been targeting outbuildings overnight.
Detective Inspector Jav Oomer said: “Now the weather is improving and the days are getting longer many people will be beginning spring maintenance work so it’s a timely reminder to make sure you store your machinery securely.
“The items being targeted are easy to move around and sell on as they’re highly desirable at this time of year. We believe they are loading small vehicles and machinery onto the back of trailers.
“Try to look at your outbuilding through the eyes of a criminal and update your security if it’s lacking. Should you notice anyone acting suspiciously or any suspicious vehicles make sure you report it immediately giving a full description and registration if you can.”
