Work has begun on an extension to the Burntwood RUFC clubhouse.
The development will provide the club with 2 more RFU compliant changing rooms and a new entrance area and lobby for the Brendewood function room upstairs.
There will also be facilities for disabled visitors, including a lift for access to the first floor.
The cost of the entire project is £170,000, with the majority of the funding come from the RFU who awarded the club £96,933. Additional money was provided by the Staffordshire Environmental Fund (£30,000), Lichfield District Council Section 106 Fund (£10,000), Awards for All (£9,785) and Staffordshire County Council (£1,000), with the remainder raised by club members.
Rugby club secretary Rob Forsyth said:
“The clubhouse is busy seven days a week for sports events, social and corporate functions and meetings. The new facilities will provide better access to the club’s function rooms and will be user-friendly for all concerned. We are very grateful to the funding organisations for making these improvements possible.”
Burntwood has a growing mini/youth section for boys but with separate new changing rooms, the rugby club is looking to offer girls the chance to try out rugby for next season.
The extension is being constructed by local firm Crown Cutting Services Ltd.
