Lady luck finally shone on Lichfield Superbikes ace Gary Mason – even if the sunshine didn’t.

The MSS Colchester Kawasaki rider finally managed to banish the technical demons that have plagued him all season as he enjoyed a positive outing at Silverstone.

With a grid position of 11th for race one, Mason began with high hopes, but saw rain halt his progress and lead to the arrival of red flags.

When the action finally resumed, the wet weather tyres began to deteriorate and the Lichfield man was helpless as he slipped down the order and battled bravely to hang on to 14th spot.

A later than anticipated start to race two saw Mason determined to right the wrongs of his season as he leapt as high as third in the opening stages of the shortened race.

And with a bike underneath him that was behaving, the Lichfield rider gave a number of the championship hopefuls a real scare as he chalked up an eventual seventh place finish.

Mason explained:

“The first race was going mega and we were putting in some great times when they red-flagged it for the rain. Then in the restart the rear tyre basically fell apart down the centre and that was that. In the second race it was great to be up there and showing what we can do.

“It was my first proper wet race without any issues with the bike so it was good to be up there mixing it and upsetting some of the big guns. Roll on Oulton!”
