Charlie Blakemore has hailed Chasetown FC’s evergreen striker Gary Hay after his two-goal performance against Burscough.

The hitman never gave the visiting defence a minute’s peace and was rewarded with a brace in the Scholars’ 5-0 romp.

And his manager believes the 35-year-old can go on terrorising defences for some time to come.

He said:

“He’s 35, but I’ve said that if he plays like that he’ll be playing at 65 because I thought he was brilliant. He’s worked hard and taken his goals well. When a defender comes off at the end of a game [against him] they know they’ve had a game.”
