Firefighter given the honour of opening new Debenhams store in Lichfield

An award-winning Lichfield firefighter will cut the ribbon on a new flagship city centre shop.

Sharron Finch will do the honours as Debenhams finally opens its doors in the Three Spires Shopping Centre today (May 16).

The 43-year-old was chosen after the store’s manager heard about her fundraising achievements, with a parachute jump in August set to push her over the £5,000 milestone in aid of The Fire Fighters Charity.

“It’s a big honour to be asked to open the store, although I was shocked to have been selected,” said Sharron, who has been a retained firefighter at Lichfield Fire Station for the past 11 years.

“I am thrilled about having an opportunity to raise awareness of The Fire Fighters Charity which is a cause close to my heart.”

With the help of her station colleagues Sharron has organised car washes, stalls in the city and recycled mobile phones. She even managed to secure £400 in sponsorship from builders working on the Debenhams development which is opposite the Birmingham Road station.

Before cutting the ribbon at the new store, the mum of two will be given a free makeover and be allowed to choose a glam outfit suitable for the occasion.

Anyone wanting to sponsor Sharron for her skydive can do so at www.justgiving.com/SHARRON-FINCH.

I think its brilliant that a hard working regular person has been given this role rather than some big shot! Good on you Sharon and I hope your fund raising goes well!

Lovely to see someone who is inspirational to the community than some banal councillor or politician.

    Congratulations Sharron.
