A Burntwood councillor says he won’t be swapping political battles for boxing ones any time soon after taking part in a charity bout.

Cllr Doug Pullen, who leads Burntwood Town Council as well as sitting on Lichfield District Council, fought in a white collar boxing match to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

His ring debut didn’t go quite to plan though after he was stopped in the second round on Saturday night (23rd March).

But despite tasting defeat, Cllr Pullen said the bout had been a winner in terms of fundraising.

“I certainly didn’t discover a hidden talent for boxing,” he said. “But it was a great experience.

“I’m really pleased with fundraising now at £1,200 for Cancer Research UK.

“My next challenge might be slightly more genteel though!”

People can still donate via the online fundraising page.
