AN appeal has been launched against action to prevent the development of a traveller site on land in Burntwood.
Lichfield District Council issued two enforcement notices after changes were made to the plot on Woodhouses Road.
It also secured an interim injunction in a bid to halt work pending the outcome of legal proceedings.
The order prevents additional development or the stationing of more caravans at the site.
The planning enforcement team at Lichfield District Council said:
"Planning policy for traveller sites states that traveller sites in the green belt are inappropriate development unless there are very special circumstances.
"No very special circumstances have been evidenced.
"The unauthorised development results in harm to the openness of the green belt by virtue of the introduction of the hard surfaced area and the addition and volume of the caravans – and in doing so the unauthorised development would fail to preserve the openness of the green belt and the rural character of the area."
The enforcement notice requires the surfaced area to be permanently removed along with the "unauthorised" septic tank and associate pipework.
It also demands the removal of all caravans sited on the plot.
But applicant David Tyson Price has now appealed against the enforcement notice stating it was too late to take action and that the steps required are excessive.
