Hundreds of balloons have been released to mark the launch of a Burntwood school’s new name.

Chasetown Specialist Sports College will now be known as Erasmus Darwin Academy after gaining academy status.

As well as a new name, the school will also be introducing a new logo and uniform.

Principal Bernice Astling said:

“We are very proud to become an Academy and we look forward to maximising the opportunities that this new status affords. I am very grateful for the considerable support given by staff, students, parents and Governors for this new development.

“As an Academy, we will join the ranks of many of the highest performing schools in England. We will build on our success to become a centre of educational excellence.  It is a very exciting time for the whole school community.”
