LICHFIELD District Council's cabinet has approved more than £780,000 of funding for projects to improve parks, sports facilities, schools and community spaces.
The Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) cash – which is generated through contributions from developers – will be split between 14 awards.
Projects approved include improvements to Hopwas Community Park, a play area and changing facilities at Shenstone Playing Fields, a refurbished cricket pavilion at The Friary School, improvements to Drayton Bassett's BMX track and sports playing fields, new floodlights and accessibility improvements at Lichfield Rugby Club, replacement practice nets at Elford Cricket Club, and investment in community facilities including The Hub at St Mary's.
Cllr Alex Farrell, cabinet member for housing and the Local Plan, said:
"As our district grows, it's important that our communities benefit too. Community Infrastructure Levy funding allows us to reinvest money from new development into projects that improve everyday life for residents.
"From parks and play areas to sports clubs, schools and community facilities, these projects will make a real difference to communities across the district. They will improve local facilities, encourage healthier lifestyles and create places that people can enjoy for many years to come.
"We're looking forward to seeing these projects take shape and sharing their progress with residents over the coming months."
Work on the successful projects is expected to begin over the coming months.
