NEW technology is being used to help keep Staffordshire Police's dogs safe.
The four-legged crimefighters will be fitted with cameras to provide real-time pictures to the handler to help with searches and reduce the risk of harm to the animals.
Firearms support dogs have used the Axon Body 4 cameras after creating their own harness by modifying a piece of tracking equipment.
Dog handler PC Craig Neeson said:
"There wasn’t anything on the market that did what we needed it to do.
"Some of the military-style options were very expensive, so we worked with what we had and kept refining it until it was fit for purpose."
