CHASETOWN got their first win of the season as Ty Webster’s goal proved to be the difference against Shifnal Town.
The Scholars started the best of the two sides with Oli Hayward crossing the ball in from the right to find the head of Luke Yates, but the ball flew just wide.
Shifnal had their first attempt on goal moments later courtesy of a free-kick from Kane Lewis which Chasetown keeper Curtis Pond was equal to.
The visitors then saw handball shouts against new Scholars defender Nathan Cameron waved away by the referee.
Chasetown got themselves in front on 17 minutes when summer signing Webster slotted into the top corner.
Jack Loughran had a good chance for Shifnal from distance, but it went just wide of the target.
Chasetown ended the first half with Yates’ header saved after a Jack Langston corner had found him
In the second period, Shifnal started the brighter of the two sides with Loughran shooting just over the bar.
Kyle Byrne had another crack at goal for the visitors, but Pond was able to make the save and keep the Scholars in front.
In the dying minutes of the game, Yates had another chance to double Chasetown’s lead with a shot that went straight down the throat of Shifnal keeper Andy Wycherley.
Lewis Jarman scuffed the crossbar with a late effort, but it wasn’t enough and Chasetown walked away with the win.
