COUNCILLORS are set to decide whether to allocate £12,000 of funding to replace an access ramp at a local Scouts venue.
An application for Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) money has been made to Lichfield City Council.
If approved, the work would see the improvement made to the 6th Lichfield Scout headquarters on Christchurch Lane.
The total cost of the project is £17,500, with funding already in place for the remainder.
But a report to a meeting of the city council revealed that the current amount available to allocate is £12,419 – although a further £52,000 is due to be received by October.
The application for the £12,000 of CIL funding from the Scout group said:
"We provide for just over 100 young people from age four to 14 across our sections. We promote friendship, leadership and learning through our weekly programmes and hold many weekend camps and overnight experiences to build confidence in our youngsters.
"Unlike many Scout groups, we own the premises we operate out of. The Scout Hut was built in 2009 with a long wooden access ramp to the side of the building and leading to the main doors. This ramp acts as the main access route into the building.
"The ramp is reaching the end of its life and we wish to move to a permanent solution rather than replacing with wood every 15 years or so.
"We have already had to remove several hand rail pillars from the ramp due to rot. As such, we are urgently seeking to replace the ramp before it is deemed completely unsafe.
"Carrying out this work is essential in order to avoid having to close the building to all community group users."
A decision on the application will be made at the meeting this evening (27th July).
