Lichfield District Council has confirmed an investigation is taking place over alleged fly-tipping on farmland in Burntwood.

It comes following the release of a video online by a local farmer after he found names and addresses on bags of waste that had been dumped.

The film showed a farm worker handing over the waste to Cllr Thomas Loughbrough-Rudd, independent member for Burntwood North at Staffordshire County Council, at a property in Hammerwich.

The councillor told Lichfield Live that his address had been on some of the paperwork found in the dumped rubbish, but said he no longer lived at the house in the video.

“It had a letter addressed to me from a mobile phone company which was the SIM card I gave to my partner at the time we were together from February – which means it must have been there for some time – and other stuff from members of that household that I shall not disclose.”

Cllr Loughbrough-Rudd added that he had been visiting the property where he once lived with his partners when the video was filmed.

“This gentleman turned up randomly on the one day I returned to my former partners’ house and dumped a bag I believed had been binned. Clearly it had not.

“He drove away after I’d gone through and went back to see if they was still there to discuss it.

“I will reach out to said gentlemen to resolve the matter and meet his employer.”

A Lichfield District Council confirmed to Lichfield Live that an investigation into fly-tipping had now begun.

Meanwhile, Staffordshire County Council would not comment directly on Cllr Loughbrough-Rudd’s appearance in the video, but a spokesperson said anyone with evidence of illegal fly-tipping should report it to the district council or the local police.
