Lichfield District Council believes reductions in its size will help mitigate cuts to its climate change service.
The local authority has identified a £20,000 saving as part fo the Fit for the Future review, which aims to fill a £1.7million funding hole.
The climate change area is one of many council departments being considered for closure or downsizing.
But the review expects the impact of cuts to be reduced in this particular area.
“We lose the opportunity to reduce our own carbon emissions [by stopping the service],” the report said. “However, it is likely that we will reduce emissions due to the council becoming smaller.
“Some work on improving energy efficiency of housing which is led by the housing team, and work on encouraging the design of energy efficient new development which is led by the planning team, would continue to take place.”
The plans will be examined by the council’s overview and scrutiny committee on Thursday (June 20).
