COUNCIL chiefs say an investigation is ongoing following a “significant number” of noise complaints about a festival in Fradley.
The Wibbly Woods event saw residents complain to Lichfield District Council about excessive noise.
But a spokesperson for Lichfield District Council said that the size of the festival meant it was unable to impose conditions before it took place.
They said:
“We’ve received a significant number of noise complaints about an event that took place last weekend in Fradley, known as the Wibbly Woods festival.
“As the event involves fewer than 500 people, it’s been held for several years under a Temporary Event Notice (TEN).
“A TEN doesn’t allow our environmental health officers to impose conditions on the event, only to object to it taking place.
“Environmental health has historically objected to the event due to concerns about noise, which led to the organisers taking steps to reduce its impact.
“As a result, in recent years the noise levels from the event have been much better, and we therefore didn’t have the evidence to object to this year’s event.
“Unfortunately, it’s clear that the event last weekend led to significant noise over a wide area, and we’ve had more complaints than ever before.”
People are able to raise a formal noise complaint via the Lichfield District Council website.
A council spokesperson added:
“Our environmental health officers were in contact with the organisers before and during the event and were out each night monitoring the noise levels.
“We are now investigating whether any offences have been committed. This will help shape our response to any future TEN applications for this event.”
