Planned improvements to a junction in Lichfield don’t go far enough, according to a local councillor.
Residents living near the junction of Eastern Avenue and Grange Lane have campaigned for changes, leading to an agreement from Staffordshire County Council that it will be put into the schedule of work foe 2017/18.
But Liberal Democrat Councillor Paul Ray has urged the authority to look at installing a roundabout to cut the number of incidents.
He said: “Eastern Avenue is a busy and fast road and there is real potential for a serious accident here.
“The statistics for this junction show three or four reported accidents each year and local residents report that there are also many other unreported accidents here too. This junction is also located near a school zone.
“Adding the junction to the works programme is certainly a step forward, but it seems that what will be proposed are minor improvements rather than a permanent solution, for example a roundabout.
“Such a step is needed at this dangerous junction.”
The campaign culminated in a meeting between 15 householders and representatives of the county council in September.
Local resident Robin Horton, who lives near the junction said: “The county council needs to grasp the seriousness of the problem facing people who use the junction on a daily basis.”
