Councillors are set to discuss plans to turn a former tennis club in Lichfield into a car park.
The Birmingham Road site, which was once home to Lichfield Lawn Tennis Club before their merger with the Friary Tennis Club, has been empty since April 2012.
And now a plan has been drawn up for a 65-space car park to be put on the land.
“The application site is considered to be well suited for use as a car park given that the site is located within 250 metres of Lichfield City Railway Station and 300 metres of Lichfield Bus Station,” a statement supporting the application said.
Lichfield City Council has called for the plan to be refused because of congestion on Birmingham Road and the danger to pupils caused by the shared access road with Queens Croft School.
The proposal – which is to use the site for parking for an initial five year period – will be discussed by Lichfield District Council’s planning committee on Monday (October 21).
