THE leader of Staffordshire County Council has joined other senior Reform UK figures in calling for the new Prime Minister to devolve powers on housing illegal migrants in local communities.
Cllr Martin Murray was one of more than 20 of the party's council leaders to sign the letter from Zia Yusuf to Andy Burnham.
In it, they call on the Prime Minister to "make good" on a promise to devolve decision-making by allowing them to reject resettlement action by the Home Office.
The letter said:
"Across the country, towns and cities have been left defenceless as a cosy cabal of Westminster elites has opened the floodgates to hundreds of thousands of unvetted, unidentified, fighting-age men from countries riven by violence – with attitudes towards women and girls verging on the medieval – and placed those men into our communities despite our pleas and protests.
"You have said that the centralisation and privatisation of political decisions is the root of Britain’s current malaise – and this issue represents the best case study of that process.
"The Home Office has kept local people out of decision-making while outsourcing those choices to private companies like Serco, which reap rich rewards from their destruction of our homes.
"If you really believe in giving power back to the people, you must grant local authorities the power to end this insanity."
