A Lichfield dad has raised more than £22,000 for charity after taking part in a cycle ride across the country.
Matthew Chatting completed the ride between Lands End and John O’Groats with his friend Nick Keay.
The duo’s efforts have helped the Carter the Brave fundraising total pass the £280,000 mark.
The family began raising money to support the oncology ward at Birmingham Children’s Hospital after Matthew’s son Carter underwent years of treatment for leukaemia after being diagnosed when he was just four years old.
Matthew said the cycle ride had been his biggest fundraising challenge to date.
“We did the ride with no support car or team and carried everything we needed for the journey.
“I only bought a bike and started riding last September, so this challenged our fitness, mental determination, navigation abilities and roadside bike repair skills.
“Nick and I trained hard through the long cold winter months with plenty of rain, wind, even a little snow and many many early start days when temperatures were below zero.”

People can still donate to the Carter the Brave fundraising page online to help pay for equipment for the ward where the youngster was treated.
“We are aware that many here have already donated to Carter the Brave, but if anyone can spare a little bit to carry on helping these kids then we would be so grateful.”
