Proposals to transform the old Kwik Save store in Lichfield into a new hotel have been submitted to planning chiefs.
The Tamworth Street building – which was once The Regal Cinema – had originally been earmarked as a 60-bed hotel, but the new plans show that developers Tribecka are now looking to create 108 bedrooms on the site with a bar and restaurant on the ground floor.
Some residents had raised concerns regarding the traditional frontage of the building, but the developers have said that the original facade will be retained – although the remainder of the building has been earmarked for demolition because it has what the Trebicka have described as “little or no architectural value”.
The planning documentation continued:
“The proposal is to retain the front facade to Tamworth Street, and to demolish the monolithic red brick structure to the rear. It is intended to build a new five storey structure which will have on the ground floor (and entered from Tamworth Street), through the retained and renovated front facade, a hotel reception lobby, bar/restaurant with ancillary accommodation/facilities.”
