The efforts of GCSE pupils and teachers in Lichfield and Burntwood has been inspiring, Staffordshire education chief has said.
Young people will join others across the country in receiving their GCSE results today (20th August).
The grades come in the wake of controversy surrounding A-Level results, which saw the Government opt to reissue grades following the use of an algorithm which saw more than a third of grades drop below those predicted by teachers.
As a result, GCSE results will be awarded based on teacher assessments.
Cllr Jonathan Price, cabinet member for education at Staffordshire County Council, said it had been a difficult year for students:
“It is good news that we now have clarity on how GCSE results are being calculated, as this means pupils can focus on their next steps, whether that’s going into sixth form, college, or taking an apprenticeship.
“All school pupils have had a very challenging year so far, from coping with changes in how lessons are delivered, to being separated from friends and having uncertainly around their exams.
“The way pupils have responded to these challenges has been nothing short of inspiring.
“Teachers have also been working incredibly hard to keep lessons going throughout lockdown, and undertaking the unenviable task of taking decisions that direction impact people’s futures.”

The coronavirus crisis means some students will be collecting their grades remotely rather than in person.
“I also want to remind people to celebrate getting their results sensible, and to keep following social distancing guidelines.
“Our young people have a huge amount to offer this county, and are continuing to play an important part in helping to prevent a second peak of infections.
“To every pupil picking up GCSE results today, I want to wish them the best for the future.
“This year has been very difficult for everyone, but I am proud of the way Staffordshire schools and students have risen to the challenge.”
