An English class in Lichfield is celebrating the completion of its first academic year.

The success of the Thursday sessions at Wade Street Church have led to a summer school being launched ahead of the new year in September.

A spokesperson said: “The Summer School has included visits to many places of interest in Lichfield including the Garrick Theatre, the Samuel Johnson Museum, the Guildhall cells, the Farmers’ Market, the Cathedral and St Mary’s Heritage Centre.

“The library staff have supported us by introducing the students to all that the library has to offer and enabling students to research aspects of citizenship.

“The students have all had the opportunity to sit a Trinity College London examination at their own levels and the great news is that they have all passed.

“We have worked closely with Lichfield CVS to provide volunteering opportunities for Learning Support Assistants. This in turn has enabled us to cater for all levels of students.

“We are grateful to the staff of Wade St Church as well as for support from St Chad’s Church.”
