A BURNTWOOD school is celebrating after landing an award for work to create a new outdoor area to support the wellbeing of pupils.
Highfields Primary Academy has received the RHS Level 1 School Garden Award.
Staff and pupils have transformed part of the school grounds with areas for growing food that can be used in the canteen, areas to sit and relax with a water feature and a fire pit, and spaces to attract bugs and wildlife.
Headteacher Mark Wilkes said:
"This project is truly transformational. In a time where we need to be looking after each other's mental wellbeing, an outdoor area designed to be calm and be close with nature is essential.
"The staff and pupils have worked incredibly hard and continue to develop the garden further."
The school is now looking to continue work to develop the outdoor area with the creation of a reading area.
