A governor at a school near Lichfield has been temporarily removed while an investigation into a number of issues is carried out.
The Lichfield Diocesan Board announced that it had removed an unnamed appointed foundation governor at Needwood Church of England Primary School in Newborough.
No details of the investigation have been released, although a statement revealed that a “number of concerns” were being looked into at the school. Under the suspension terms, the governor may be reinstated at a later date.
The diocesan director of education, Colin Hopkins, has been authorised to carry out an investigation into issues raised, while Staffordshire County Council has arranged a meeting with the governing body with a view to determining whether a formal warning should be issued.
Mr Hopkins said:
“I am looking into a number of concerns that have been raised with me about governance at the school. I hope that these issues can be addressed swiftly, so that there is no impact on the good quality of education the children currently enjoy.”
Cllr Mike Lawrence, Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for Children’s Wellbeing, added:
“We are committed to ensuring that parents can have confidence in the School, and are working with the diocese in implementing a strategy to resolve current difficulties.”
A meeting with parents is also set to take place in the near future.
