The headteacher of a Lichfield primary school has announced she is to leave her post.
Sinead Smith will stand down from St Joseph’s RC Primary School at the end of the school year.
She confirmed the news in a letter to parents, where she recognised that her decision to leave “a truly outstanding Catholic primary school” may have surprised many of them.
“Over the past two years, I have had the great privilege of being part of the school community at St Joseph’s,” she said.
“It is therefore with sadness, but also with confidence that the school is in a very strong position, that I will be leaving St Joseph’s at the end of this year.
“This may come as a surprise as headteachers often remain in post for many years.
“However, just as the educational landscape is changing at a very rapid pace, so too is the model of school leadership which is now firmly focused on the wider context of school improvement and how schools across the diocese can benefit from the expertise of headteachers.”
She confirmed that she would be leading a new school from September.
“The governing body of St Joseph’s are now in the process of ensuring the continued strength of the leadership team as they make strategic plans for the future,” Mrs Smith added.
“They have the very best intentions for the school and I know they will make the right decisions which will have the children’s needs at heart.”
