A Lichfield school has credited its best-ever GCSE results to a “relentless focus” by staff and students.
Nether Stowe School saw 67 per cent of students achieving five A* to C grade qualifications including English and Maths – up around 20 per cent on last year.
Seventy-seven per cent of students gained a C or above in Maths and 72 per cent in English.
Headteacher Ruth Poppleton said:
“I am absolutely delighted with these results. I am immensely proud of the students, who have worked so hard this year and really taken on board the importance of gaining good grades at GCSE, especially in English and Maths. The teaching staff at Nether Stowe have risen magnificently to the challenging targets we set ourselves at the start of the year.
“As a school we have had a relentless focus on delivering the highest of standards in classroom teaching and combined with monitoring pupil progress this has enabled the students and the school to achieve these amazing results.”

Thirteen students also gained starred distinctions in their Btec course.
