The headteacher of a Burntwood school that saw 99 per cent of students achieve five A* to C grades at GCSE has admitted she is “proud” of their achievements.

Bernice Astling, principal of Erasmus Darwin Academy – formerly Chasetown Specialist Sports College – made her comments after seeing the school achieve its best ever exam results.

She added:

‘These results show that Erasmus Darwin Academy is a truly inclusive school that is highly successful in ensuring that all our students gain good results. Many congratulations to students who sat examinations this summer – we are very proud of their achievements, and we wish them every success in their future studies and training courses.

“We also thank staff for hard work and parents for their tremendous support which has been invaluable.”

Students achieving highest grades in their subjects include:

  • Saoirse Conaghan-Burnell with 3A* and 6As.
  • Emma Bleakley with 3A* and 5As.
  • Grace Cunningham with 3A* and 5As.
  • Megan Foster with 4A* and 4As

Other students who gained 5 or more A/A* amongst their results include:

  • Rebecca Cutler.
  • Emily Dowson.
