Pupils and staff at a Lichfield school are celbrating after scooping an award for their efforts to be healthy.
The SS Peter and Paul Catholic Primary School was presented with the national Healthy Schools Status award by Sarah Elsom, Deputy Lieutenant for Staffordshire, at a special ceremony in Stafford.
County Councillor Veronica Downes, cabinet member for schools said:
“Congratulations to everyone involved, this is a wonderful achievement. These schools have shown that they have invested in being healthy and are dedicated to ongoing improvement and development in this area, equipping pupils with the skills and attitudes to help them make informed decisions about their health.”
Every school in the Staffordshire local authority area has signed up to Healthy Schools – a national long-term programme aiming to make a difference to the health and well being of children and young people.
To date, 295 of the county’s schools have already successfully gained the status with the remainder working towards it.
Schools have worked closely with Staffordshire County Council and its local Primary Care Trusts to achieve National Healthy Schools Status, which promotes the link between physical and emotional well-being within the whole school community.
