A LOCAL group is dedicating a new memorial to personnel who served at RAF Lichfield.
The site was operational from 1940 to 1958, playing a key role during the Second World War as home to the 27 Operational Training Unit and 51 Maintenance Unit.
The Fradley Heritage Group has now commissioned a memorial to the personnel who served there at St Stephen's Church, where 33 Commonwealth War Graves are located.
Created by Foxglass Designs, the Lightbox panel will feature a Wellington Bomber flying over a hangar.
It will be dedicated in a service at the church at 11am on 13th June.
Richard Green, secretary of the Fradley Heritage Group, said:
"We feel that this is a very important occasion to mark the sacrifice these people made protecting Europe against Nazi domination."
