COUNTY council chiefs are backing England's footballers to extend their World Cup run - and continue boosting local hospitality businesses.
The Three Lions face Argentina in the semi-final this evening (15th July) with a place against Spain in the final up for grabs.
Thousands of fans are expected to head out to pubs and other venues to watch Thomas Tuchel's men in their crunch clash.
Cllr Martin Murray, leader of Staffordshire County Council, said:
"It’s been a great World Cup so far and England’s semi-final tonight against their old rival Argentina promises to be another real treat for football fans.
"The tournament has been fantastic for communities right across Staffordshire and has provided a real boost for many of our pubs, bars and hospitality venues.
"Major sporting events like this showcase the important role our hospitality sector plays in local economies, creating jobs and bringing people together.
"We wish the team the very best of luck for the game and hope they can take another step towards World Cup glory."
