Lichfield and Burntwood residents reminded to register to vote

People in Lichfield and Burntwood are being urged to make sure they’re registered to vote in the forthcoming General Election.

With the date set for May 6, people across the country will be beginning to decide who will get their vote. But before anyone can place their cross on the ballot papers they need to be registered – and there isn’t long to make sure they are.

Nina Dawes, (Acting) Returning Officer for Lichfield District explained:

“Many people don’t realise they are not automatically registered to vote, just because they pay council tax, or have voted before. People also need to make sure they have updated their address if they have moved house in the last six months. To make sure you don’t miss out, and can vote in this year’s general election, you must be registered no later than April 20.”

Nina added:

“If you can’t make it to the polling station on election day, or would just prefer to vote by post, there’s still time to apply for a postal vote. If you live in Lichfield District, you can apply for a postal vote online at www.lichfielddc.gov.uk/postalvote or call the Elections Team on 01543 308125.

“We don’t want anyone to miss out on their chance to have their say this May, so remember to register before the April 20 deadline.”
