Pupils, staff and parents from schools in Lichfield and Burntwood are celebrating after being awarded Level 1 Renewed Dyslexia Friendly Status.
Scotch Orchard Community Primary School in Lichfield and Fulfen Primary School in Burntwood received their awards at a ceremony in Stafford.
By the end of the summer term 2009, 301 Staffordshire schools had achieved Level 1 Dyslexia Friendly status. Fifty schools have now gained Full Dyslexia Friendly Status. This represents 89 per cent of schools within the county with either Level 1 or Full Dyslexia Friendly Status.
Schools receiving awards have gone through a rigorous process which involved an audit of current practice, self assessment, staff training and development of an action plan to improve practice.
County Councillor Veronica Downes, Cabinet Member for Schools said:
“This is an excellent achievement and I would like to congratulate everyone involved and thank them all for their hard work towards achieving this award. This is another step forward to develop fully inclusive links for pupils with dyslexia within Staffordshire’s schools.”
