A Lichfield artist has created a new piece of work to encourage people to use their vote.
The piece by Rachel Groves is inspired by the Just Vote campaign and depicts a person holding the cross ready to put it in the ballot box.
And as people across Lichfield, Burntwood and the UK head to the polling stations today (May 6) the piece is designed to empower more people to vote.
Rachel explained:
“A big part of what fuels my art work is to draw about life. It’s easy for us, living in a society with so many freedoms, to take democracy for granted. While it might seem a hassle to some to have to walk along to the polling station to vote in the General Election people fought hard to give us that right.
“The bottom line is if you don’t vote you don’t have a say. I could say it’s your duty to vote but I’d rather draw something to remind us all that we’re empowered to have our say. I think it’s more important than ever to vote in this election where there’s momentum towards electoral reform and cleaning up our political system.
“So whatever you do, whoever you vote for – just put a cross in the box.”
