A Lichfield business has become the latest casualty of the economic downturn.

The Greenhill Fish Bar’s long tradition of serving up battered favourites to customers has ended – with a handwritten note appearing in its window informing customers.

The poster said: “We are sorry, but after 34 years in the city centre we become one of the sad statistics.”

The closure is the latest in a line of long-serving companies departing Lichfield, with Tatlow Cards & Gifts, The Sony Centre, Burton menswear and the Thrales restaurant among the casualties in recent months, following the demise of other city centre stores such as TJ Hughes and Woolworths.
