A Lichfield councillor says families are “on the edge” amid warnings fuel bills could rocket once more later in the year.
Ofgem’s chief executive Jonathan Brearley has predicted that the current energy price cap of £1,971 a year was likely to jump to around £2,800 in October.
Cllr Dave Robertson, Labour representative for Curborough at Lichfield District Council, said such an increase would be beyond the means of many residents.
“Hundreds of families in Lichfield are already on the edge – people won’t be able to find another £70 a month.
“It’s time for the Government to wake up and take proper action on the cost of living.”

Cllr Robertson has previously highlighted the pressures facing families amid the cost of living crisis.
Last month he urged the Government to “get a grip” of the challenges for those being hit by rising bills.
“What we really need is the Government to introduce an emergency budget which includes a one-off windfall tax on oil and gas companies and provides real help for people who are really struggling at the moment.”
