A city business has donated cutlery worth £750 to the Churches Together In Lichfield Christmas Day Lunch.
The annual event staffed by volunteers brings together local older people who would otherwise be alone on Christmas Day.
Cutlery manufacturers Arthur Price heard that the scheme was becoming increasingly popular and were using a selection of old and borrowed cutlery, so they presented Ian Hayter of Wade Street Church which houses the Christmas Day Lunch with 60 settings – or 480 pieces – of the Old English design.
Rev Ian Hayter said: “The Lichfield Churches Together Christmas Day Lunch is very popular, with between 65 and 80 people attending.
“The event is very good fun and a lovely way to spend Christmas Day.
“Everyone is very grateful to Arthur Price for their kind offer and an added nice touch was Simon Price, their CEO, personally delivering everything.”
Simon added: “Christmas is special time for families but for some less fortunate the festive season can be very lonely.
“Staff and volunteers at Churches Together in Lichfield and across the UK deserve great praise for giving up their time on Christmas Day to help those who would otherwise be alone and I was very humbled to hand over a small gift which I hope will have a big impact not only on Christmas Day but for all the other wonderful events organised throughout the year.”
