The owner of a Lichfield hair salon has revealed that prom fever is even gripping primary school students.

The American tradition has made its way across the Atlantic to British high schools, but now it seems even younger pupils are getting glammed up for a big event.

Tony Walmsley, owner of Anthony John Salon at the Heart of the Country Shopping Village in Lichfield, said: “Over the last few years, we’ve seen a dramatic increase in the number of Lichfield high schools – and even some primary schools – offering proms to their pupils.

“With the rise of celebrity and awards ceremonies, simply straightening hair is no longer an option, and our younger clients are increasingly after bespoke and elaborate hairstyles which will make them stand out from their peers on the biggest night of the school year.”

Tony also revealed that the salon had already seen a number of prom bookings for May and July.
