Students at a Lichfield school have overcome a year of “turmoil in the examination system” to claim record GCSE results.
Nether Stowe School head teacher Ruth Poppleton said pupils had shown determination to succeed, with 72 per cent gaining five A* to C grade passes, including English and maths.
“These are the best results we have ever had,” she said. “I am so pleased for the students who worked so hard to achieve these magnificent grades.
“It has been a year of turmoil in the examination system, but we have not let that get in the way of preparing our students for these examinations.
“These results are also a tribute to the continued dedication and hard work of the staff at Nether Stowe, not just during year 11, but all day, every day.”
Among the achievers was Jessica Castledine-Pearce who achieved seven A grades. She said: “I felt sick before coming into school to get my results, but now I’m really happy with my success.”
