The headteacher of a Lichfield primary school has said no children will return to class on 1st June.
The Prime Minister has outlined plans for pupils from Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 to go back to schools across the country next month.
But Gemma Grainger, headteacher of Chadsmead Primary Academy, said they would definitely not reopen on 1st June – and she added that the Government still needed to meet all tests before children could return.
In a letter to parents, she said:
“The Government still seems intent on working towards a return for some pupils in June, and we are preparing accordingly.
“In order for the school and staff to be ready for the opening, we will be taking 1st June as a training day – no children will be in school.
“This will ensure all staff members can prepare resources, classrooms and train on the new procedures in school.
“It will also allow for a thorough clean before the further opening to some year groups.”

The letter comes after a Burntwood headteacher warned that the demands on staff meant that the reopening would see changes to home learning provision for those children are not eligible to go back to class.
