Lichfield RUFC were taught a harsh lesson in clinical finishing and decision-making by a rampant Bournville RUFC outfit.
The first half was a constant battle as, despite some brave endeavour, all Lichfield’s best efforts were in vain as their opponents denied them time and space and counter attacked well with turnover ball.
The Myrtle Green’s pack gained superiority at the scrum and at least parity at the lineout but as a unit were second best at the breakdown.
The hosts’ backs were under constant pressure from the strong Bournville contingent and unusually fell off too many tackles. They made a number of line breaks but too made the wrong decisions when they had broken through.
Half time came and Lichfield found themselves 35-0 down and desperately needing to regroup.
The second half saw a better performance from the home side and they matched their opponents with line breaks but were unable to finish off many promising attacks.
They did however score two well manufactured tries by Neil Antcliffe and Jack Sporcic showing what they could do with a little continuity, both converted by Luke Massey.
Bournville were held at bay in the second half but still managed to score three further tries to make the final score 56-14.
