A Lichfield schoolboy has been admitted to Mensa with an IQ in the top one per cent of the country.
Eight-year-old Alex Deebank has been able to shine after having his dyslexia recognised when he joined Maple Hayes School in September 2012.
His new IQ score of 136 means that he ranks a point higher than former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger!
Mum Jennifer admits she is delighted to see him achieving his potential at last.
“Alex was always bright and inquisitive, and showed a particular ability for mathematics,” she explained. “But he began to struggle reading, writing and spelling, so started to hate school more and more.
“He would sit in a class with his peers, understanding the lesson and knowing the answers but not being able to communicate them. It was hugely frustrating for him and inevitably led to meltdowns and temper tantrums when he was out of the school gates.
“Since Alex moved to Maple Hayes he’s like a different child and his love of learning is written all over his face – even after just one term there. He has discovered a newfound love for history and has started playing the piano, which seems to come naturally to him.”
