Two Lichfield students have been showcasing their sporting prowess on national TV.
Nether Stowe School’s Sophie Capewell represented England on the BBC’s Ultimate Sports Day, while Emily Nelson appeared in ITV’s Revolution alongside some of the country’s hottest young cycling prospects.
The Ultimate Sports Day saw stars such as Christian Malcolm, Barry McGuigan, Dean Macey and Sinead Kerr inspiring young athletes for the CBBC series.
“It was a great opportunity and great fun,” Sophie said. I met lots of new people and made many new friends.
“It was fantastic as we had Dean Macey as a mentor and he guided us and supported us through everything. I also met Christian Malcolm, Barry McGuigan, Sinead Kerr and Olympians Amy Williams, Phillips Idowu, Louis Smith, Kelly Sotherton and British Olympic hopeful Harry Aikines-Aryeetey.
“It was a fantastic opportunity to experience all different sports in different ways and competing against people who you wouldn’t originally compete against.
“I gave it everything however I had tonsillitis for the whole week and found it tough. However I managed to stay in until the last elimination. Dean Macey found it hard to choose between me and Emily, the girl I was competing against for a place in the final.
“But a week later I got a phone call asking if I wanted to be a substitute for the final.”
