A LOCAL walking group has celebrated its 40th anniversary.
Members of St Mary's Rambling Club hosted a walk around the city as part of efforts to mark the milestone.
Originally formed with just ten members as a subgroup of St Mary's Church, the group has grown ever since.
A spokesperson said:
"As on the inaugural walk back in May 1986, the weather for our anniversary walk was changeable to say the least.
"Encountering sunshine, showers, torrential rain and even a hailstorm, our 52 members valiantly negotiated a route from Cathedral Walk to Stowe Pool – and the weather did nothing to dampen their spirits."
The group organises events for all levels of walker each Wednesday.
"We venture not only across Staffordshire, but also through the neighbouring counties of Derbyshire, Warwickshire, Leicestershire and Shropshire.
"Everyone is welcome to take a couple of walks on a free trial basis and the modest annual membership fee of £15 aims to ensure that this wonderful pastime is accessible to all.
"In addition to walks, regular lunches and teas are arranged to ensure that all members can socialise in this friendly club. Bi-annual coach trips also ensure members can regularly venture further afield."
