LICHFIELD Hockey Club’s women came out on top in a tough clash at Matlock.
The visitors had early chances on goal that were kept out by the Matlock keeper, but the city side remained calm and composed as they pushed to win more in the circle.
Less than 10 minutes into the game, a short corner was won and a routine saw the home stopper make a save, but Molly Papadopoullos was there to slot home the loose ball to give her side the lead.
The scoreline remained the same throughout the first two quarters until a few minutes before the half-time whistle when Matlock scored a back post deflection to draw level.
The hosts started the second half with slightly more intensity than Lichfield and punished the visitors with a string of short corners which were defended well until a sharp strike found the net.
Entering the final quarter 2-1 down, the city side found an extra gear and threw everything they could at a tiring opposition – and the hard work paid off when a short corner was finished with a well-executed routine by Amy Palmer to put the teams level.
Shortly afterwards another short corner paid off as Laura Jackson slapped the ball home at the far post to secure the win.
