Lichfield’s MP admits he is concerned that the General Election result could impact on Brexit negotiations.

The Conservatives failed to grab an overall majority nationally, meaning a hung parliament will be the outcome.

But despite celebrating extending his own majority in Lichfield and Burntwood, Michael Fabricant said he was concerned over the national picture.

“I am very concerned,” he told LichfieldLive. “In just ten days time we’ll be negotiating with the European Union and I hope we will have a very firm government in place by the time that happens.

“I’m delighted that my majority has gone up and that I held the seat, but its always very nice when the majority goes up.

“I remember when I had a majority of 238 in 1997, so it’s great that at a possibly difficult time for the Conservative party at the moment I’ve been able to increase my majority. I’m pleased.”
